After weeks of allegedly being profiled and harassed by officers from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), residents of Kutulo area have publicly come to denounce alleged links with Al-Shabaab militants.
The residents now say they have suffered for long at the hands of state security agencies which have victimised them over the frequent attacks in the region by Al Shabaab.
Speaking during a consultative meeting with regional leaders, the locals are calling on the government to recruit more police reservists to curb insecurity in the region.
"I am one of the elders who the insurgents are seriously looking for. I don't sleep in my home. Here, we are being profiled as being sympathizers of the Al Shabaab. Let our government provide us with more security by recruiting our people as Kenya Police Reservists to offer intelligence. We are against these attackers because we are the first people to suffer," Gedi Shire, an elder, said.
Issa Ahmed, the area MCA who was also present during the meeting vowed to pressure the government into recruiting at least 60 police reservists to man all public institutions that have been easy targets for the militants in the past.
