On Saturday, Olunga’s side was thrashed 3-0 by league leaders Kawasaki Frontale.

The result leaves Olunga’s side in the 17th position with 33 points on the 18-teams log after 31 rounds of matches.

Kashiwa remains with three matches before the season ends and will face 5th placed Kashima, 8th placed Cerezo Osaka and 9th placed Gamba Osaka.

Olunga and company must win the remaining three games in order to have a mathematical chance of surviving relegation at the end of this month.

His side will only survive if they win their remaining three matches, while 15th placed Shonan and 16th placed Nagoya lose their remaining fixtures.

The 24-year-old joined Kashiwa Reysol in August after a brief loan spell with Spanish La Liga side Girona FC.

He scored his first goal for the club in a 5–1 league victory over V-Varen Nagasaki on 25 August, hence becoming the only Kenyan to ever score in a Japanese National soccer league match.

If his team is relegated at the end of this season, it will be the first time in his illustrious carrier for his team to go down.
