Speaking on Saturday, Dola urged locals to stop putting up resistance against the zones, noting that they will benefit immensely from the establishment of SEZs.

"This is why we want you to stop unnecessary bickering when the government is bringing good development for you,'' she said as quoted by Standard.

She spoke during the Madaraka Day celebrations at the Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground, also attended by Kisumu Deputy Governor Mathews Owilli.

Her remarks come a month after former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was heckled in Ombeyi, Muhoroni constituency where the state intends to establish an industrial park.

On his part, Kisumu Deputy Governor Mathews Owilli said that the projects will better the business sector in the county.

"We call upon the people of Kisumu who are industrious conscious to support our regime to find lasting and sustainable solutions to create new jobs for them,'' he said.
