It is common knowledge that the majority of diehard supporters of opposition leader Raila Odinga hail from Luo Nyanza, a region that has remained hopeful that one day he will be president.
Consequently, the region and most other Luos living across the nation have always come out in large numbers to vote for him in his four futile bids from 1997 to 2017.
Here are the reasons why the region is so much obsessed with Raila's presidency that it even comes out in protests each time he loses and blames it on rigging.
1. The homeboy mentality
The latter comes from the region, making the people relate and identify with him and are willing to do anything legal to hand power to their son.
When he loses, the region and most Luos feel like they have all lost as Raila has managed to surround himself with them and make himself their ultimate leader.
2. Thirst for development
Most Kenyans are from the school of thought that leaders with their hands on the national cake give their backyards the first consideration.
Consequently, some people think that with Raila at the top, then the region will get the development it has always missed since it has spend most of its time in the opposition.
3. A feeling of being in leadership
Raila has made four futile attempts to ascend to the top seat, making his supporters eager to see what he would do if he were to clinch the seat hence his unrelenting efforts.
Some of his supporters from the region want to have a feeling of being close to the nation's center of power.
