A 40-year-old woman is fighting for her life at Kisii Teaching and referral hospital after her right hand was chopped off by her 18-year-old nephew attacked her with a machete.
This happened on Saturday evening Bonyunyu village in Kisii County.
Area assistant chief Charles Gesaka said the victim Irene Kemunto was in her house when the suspect Japhet Barongo armed with a panga stormed the house and started attacking her.
"Barongo is a bhang smoker. He stormed her aunt's house with a machete accusing her that she has bewitched him. He nearly chopped off her left hand during the attack," said the chief.
Mr Gesaka said the suspect fled from the house after residents rushed to the house to rescue the woman from the jaws of death.
"Were it not for the public, Kemunto could be dead by now. The suspect was forced to run for his dear life after the public armed with crude weapons went to rescue the victim," he said.
He confirmed that the victim was rushed to the hospital where she is receiving medication.
The chief said the suspect is at large but, he is being hunted down to be nabbed.
