A middle-aged man was badly injured after a car he was driving lost control and plunged into a dam in Masinga.

The incident happened on Wednesday at Nduka moja area in Masinga sub-county, Machakos County.

The driver was alone in the car during the incident.

The vehicle, a Probox, was ferrying "Miraa" (khat) from Meru to Garissa when the incident happened.

According to reports by eyewitnesses, the driver was speeding when the vehicle lost control and plunged into the dam.

"The driver was driving dangerous at a very high speed when this happened," said Kioko Muli, a resident.

He added that speeding is a norm by miraa transporters.

"The driver had serious visible injuries on the head and legs. He was bleeding," said Mercy Mueni another witness.

The injured driver was rushed to Matuu Level Four Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

Confirming the incident, Masinga police boss Francis Siror has urged road users to practice safe driving and avoid speeding.

"Keep the road rules and avoid speeding especially during this rainy season," he said.

The wreck was towed to Masinga Police Station.
