A childhood friend of Ali Salim Gichunge, one of the terrorists who is said to have planned and orchestrated the attack on DusitD2 Hotel in Nairobi on Tuesday last week has opened up.
The friend who grew up with Gichunge in Isiolo County described him as a polite, shy and hardworking person.
As reported by the Kenya News Agency, Gichunge grew up in Kulamawe village, Waso Ward of Isiolo County before he later moved to Nyeri.
Moses Kinyanjui says Gichunge was outgoing and God-fearing.
The two schooled at Hekima Primary School in Isiolo County.
That his friend was involved in the Dusit attack is something that shocked Kinyanjui.
According to Isiolo's Waso Ward Chief, James Guchu, Gichunge was raised in a peaceful family and grew up with others in peace.
Guchu said that Gichunge had no record of crime by the time he left Isiolo County.
Anti-terror police raided Gichunge's home in Isiolo and arrested her mother, Miriam Sakina Gichunge for interrogation.
Gichunge is said to have been the commander of the terrorists who stormed DusitD2 Hotel in Nairobi.
