On Saturday, September 8th, Kenya witnessed two great wins in the sports arena. The first win was that of Kenya national football team, Harambee Stars beating West Africa’s football giants Ghana 1-0 at the Moi Sports Centre.
Later on in the evening, there was a boxing match, the female world super bantamweight title bout where Kenya’s Fatuma Zarika squared it out with Mexican Yamileth Mercado, a fight that saw Zarika emerge the winner.
The match, which attracted a large number of fans, was considered the biggest since Kenya’s Conjestina Achieng and American Yvonne Reis' fight on April 1, 2006.
Various leaders came out to celebrate Zarika's win. Deputy President William Ruto and National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga were among those who came out to congratulate Zarika for her super fight and win.
