There was drama in parliament on Wednesday after Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo asked Deputy Speaker Moses Cheboi to take action against Murang’a Woman Representative, Sabina Chege for what he termed as an inappropriate dress code in the National Assembly.
According to the lawmaker, Chege got it wrong when she wore a short-sleeved blouse to parliament.
Maanzo argued that although it was her birthday, Chege should have remembered that she is a public figure and stuck to the National Assembly's code of conduct while at parliament buildings.
Chege, however, said she did not know what was wrong with Maanzo.
Minority Leader in the National Assembly, John Mbadi was also not a happy man when he discovered what the woman representative was wearing in parliament.
He asked the Deputy Speaker to take a stern action against her with immediate effect.
Mbadi argued that Chege was not coming for the parliamentary session but a birthday party.
There was a heated debate for some time before the session continued.
“Should I come to the House sporting a short-sleeved shirt/blouse tomorrow, would you allow me in the House, Mr. Speaker? I want to urge you to ask Honorable Sabina to go and dress appropriately for being in the House,” Mbadi said.
