Political analyst Herman Manyora claims that the growing 'romance' between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga might complicate the Rift Valley region politics.
The two leaders have been close lately, in what some pundits have observed as a possible plan to block Deputy President William Ruto's plans to succeed Uhuru who is set to retire in 2022.
According to Manyora, this could deal a blow to Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, Ruto's main rival in Kalenjin land, who has also hinted at running for the top seat in the future.
Manyora added that a reunion of the two will give Ruto a chance to solidify the Rift Valley region behind him, leaving out the son of former President Daniel Moi who is also apparently after the Kalenjin kingpin slot.
According to the analyst, DP Ruto will use the dynasty tag against the 3 leaders and run away with the Kalenjin vote, and probably the presidency.
"In the event that Uhuru and Raila unite, and its clear that Moi will join them, then Ruto will head back home and tell his people that the dynasties have reunited against peasants," said Manyora who was speaking on his weekly YouTube analysis channel 'Take It or Leave It' on Saturday.
"This will most likely play in his favour and see the majority of the people in the region and possibly the entire nation side with him against the dynasties, making him the main beneficiary," he added.
However, both Uhuru and Raila have repeatedly reiterated that their union is development based and has nothing to do with the 2022 debate.
On the other hand, Senator Moi and DP Ruto have been locked in a battle for the Rift Valley region for the last few years, though the seat appears to be well within the hands of the DP.
Consequently, the two leaders have been using their allies to hit at each other, and are currently on different sides, with Moi being on the Raila, Uhuru side which is pushing for a referendum.
On the other side, Ruto is opposed to the same, a basis on which the two are likely to intensify their enmity and war of words.
