Motorists applying the busy Mombasa-Lunga Lunga road have been asked to avoid the route after floods completely blocked a section of the road few metres to Mwangei shopping centre.
The Kenya National Highway Authoritiy (KeNHA) has asked motorists to use an alternative route instead, which is from Mombasa Island to Kombani, to Kwale, then Kinango and finally to Lunga Lunga.
Motorists have been asked to be cautious even on the alternative route due to continuous rainfall pounding the area.
"Further, KeNHA urges all motorists to exercise caution while plying the route and not to attempt to cross any sections of any road that may be overtopped by floods,” said KENHA.
Earlier, the weatherman had indicated that the coastal region was set to receive heavy rainfalls this week, especially on Thursday and on Sunday, May 25.
Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu and parts of Tana River were listed as counties to be affected.
On Thursday, it rained the whole day. Starting from Wednesday evening, it only stopped for less than an hour before resuming again.
Most businesses were affected as buyers could not access some of the businesses.
