A sub-chief from Baringo County has been sacked for allegedly issuing a false statement citing that several people have died as a result of hunger.
Kosistei sub-location chief, Jack Ronei, was on the record saying that several deaths have been reported in the area caused by drought which has hit the area.
The government holds that there is no Kenyans who has died from starvation as sections of the media reports.
On Wednesday, the Deputy President reiterated his stand that no Kenyan has lost his/her life as a result of the ongoing drought in several parts of the country.
Speaking during an interview at a vernacular radio station, Kameme Fm on Wednesday, Matiang'i said the sub-chief has already been sacked.
“It’s true we have not lost any life due to the drought situation. The chief purporting to report on the drought situation was fired a long time ago. The CC Baringo has confirmed that no deaths have occasioned by current drought situation.” National Government communication Centre further stated.
The DP while in Mombasa also said that the country has an adequate amount of food in its reserves.
He, however, said the challenge has been in the distribution of the food to the affected areas.
Marsabit, Turkana, Kajiado, Baringo, West Pokot and Tana River counties are some of worst hit counties by the ravaging drought.
