The ministry of water through the Principal Secretary Joseph Irungu has warned that Teso region risks losing one of the mega project worth Sh5 billion.
Speaking on Saturday at Kakemer in Teso North during the burial of Francis Kaunya Masai, the PS noted that the continued resistance of the Kocholia Dam project will be taken to a different area if the county leadership will not intervene.
Irungu directed Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong to fast track the land issue which has brought controversies in the recent past, with locals leaving in fear of displacement.
"Mr governor, kindly intervene and find land for the project or else we as the ministry will be forced to take the project to the other region," he said
He reiterated that the government has already invested a lot on the project during public participation, adding that abandoning it will be a big loss.
ODM leader Raila Odinga also ordered the Devolution Eugene to ensure Teso community gets water with immediate effect.
Last year, Water CS Simon Chelugui, Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa, Teso North MP Oku Kaunya, Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong, and MCAs led in the public participation program at Kengatuny where the project was suited be initiated.
