Two French football supporters have died during celebrations to mark the World Cup win by Les Blues on Sunday evening.
After the 4-2 win over Croatia, violence erupted in parts of the country with Paris being the most hit.
In central Paris, widespread rioting forced many shops to remain closed on Monday morning.
In the Alpine city of Annecy, a 50-year-old France fan broke his neck after jumping into a canal at the end of the match. In nearby Saint-Felix, a man in his 30s was killed when his car crashed into a tree as he celebrated the win.
Riots police were forced to come in to contain the situation where they used teargas to keep crowds in order.
"Rioting broke out soon after midnight as large crowds refused to disperse. Shops including the Publicis Drugstore close to the Arc de Triomphe were ransacked," said a police source.
France won the World Cup for the second time in 20 years after seeing off a resilient Croatia.
