Political analyst Ambrose Weda now says that Deputy President William Ruto should brace for more attacks and condemnations as he prepares for his presidential bid.
This comes only days after a trio of lawmakers drawn from the northern part of Rift Valley blamed him for the many problems befalling maize farmers in the region.
Among them, Nandi lawmaker Alfred Keter, his Cherangany counterpart Joshua Kuttuny and Moiben's Silas Tiren on Saturday accused Ruto of influencing among others, the delayed payment of maize farmers.
“We want the DP probed because we have heard that he has been calling NCPB officials instructing them on who should be paid,” Kuttuny is quoted by the Nation.
But in an interview on KBC English Service's 'The Big Conversation' on Wednesday morning, Weda observed the allegations as another attempt by anti-Ruto forces to tame him.
"The best scheme would be to get a few renegades from his backyard so that his opposers can argue that he is facing opposition right from home," he said.
"The plan is to throw as much mud at him, we have always seen such being used against deputy Presidents aspiring to elevate themselves," added Weda who doubles up as an advocate of the High Court.
Ruto is expected to vie for the seat on the Jubilee party ticket and has openly declared that he will be in the race to succeed the outgoing President.
