Mr Albert Mochama, the deputy Principal Nyakemincha Secondary School was drunk at the time of Wednesday evening's tragic accident, eye witnesses have confirmed.

His car hit a lorry from behind near Kemera market leaving two people dead even as doctors from Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital continue to resuscitate him following serious injuries he sustained.

Mr Charles Mochama, his elder brother and a former gubernatorial candidate in Nyamira said the veteran teacher is undergoing treatment at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, adding that his condition is still critical.

"Albert Mochama Deputy Principal Nyakemincha Secondary is out of danger but in severe pain in level five now in Kisii COUNTY very sorry and sad the other co driver died on the spot our condolences to the family. By Mochama Onsongo Charles elder brother," he said.

At the accident scene, few bottles of alcohol were recovered by locals who had rushed to rescue them following the tragic accident.

Mr Peter Makori, a friend to Albert Mochama, said that they shared drinks as part of their Jamuhuri Day celebrations in Kisii town before the accident.

"I am tensed and honestly we had taken few bottles. I urged him to look for someone to drive him home but he insisted to drive alone. I didn't board the vehicle," he narrated.

Nyakemincha Secondary School is among the top leading institutions from Nyamira and it emerged second in KCSE 2017, almost dislodging Nyambaria National School. Mr Mochama is credited for the awesome results.
