A chief in Homa Bay County is reportedly living in fear after receiving death threats from suspected village goons.
Area Deputy County Commissioner Joseph Ngeny on Thursday claimed that the administrator is facing death threats for reportedly banning overnight mourning events.
Speaking during the Jamhuri Day celebrations at Olodo Primary School in Kanyabala, Homa Bay Sub County, the DCC, however, noted that such cases will not be condoned by the government.
"One of my chiefs is under death threat because he stopped 'disco matanga' in his area of jurisdiction. You hear youth going around saying we will kill, we will kill. Let those people who want to kill the administrator come to the police station if at all they really mean what they say,” he said.
Ngeny also called for sobriety among bodaboda riders, warning them against drugs, and urging them to only focus on activities that could better their lives.
At the same time, the senior administrator called upon parents to look after their female children to prevent early pregnancies, especially during this festive season.
He said that his office will also hold talks with bar owners across the county, to come up with an agreement on how to handle night discos as Christmas draws near.
