Deputy President William Ruto's support for the  Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report has thrown the ODM party off-balance, former Makadara lawmaker Benson Mutura says.

Mutura now says that the group is acting out of confusion, as it cannot figure out what to make out of Ruto's endorsement, having expected him to oppose the report released on Tuesday.

"They expected that Ruto would oppose but are now shocked that he is in support (Walikuwa wametarajia Ruto atapinga lakini sasa wanashangaa kwa sababu amekubali)," he said on Radio Jambo on Saturday.

He stated that the group suspects that the suggestions might play to Ruto's advantage going forward, hence calls by a section of those allied to ODM leader Raila Odinga for the intervention of a committee of experts.

"They now want a committee of experts to help them check what exactly Ruto has seen in this report (Sasa wanataka committee of experts ndio waangalie ni nini hii Ruto ameona hapa ndani)," he added.

He claimed that this only proves right those who have been of the opinion that the entire BBI issue was only initiated with the intention of victimizing and frustrating the DP Ruto.

Ruto, who has always expressed reservations on changing the constitution, has in a turn of events even called for quick approval of the suggestions in the report.

He on Friday said that he will support whichever avenue is picked as the best for the passage of the document details.
