Thousands of mourners on Sunday flooded the homestead of billionaire entrepreneur Stephen Mogeni, whose funeral service is currently underway at Kerumbe.
Several vehicles had to be directed to the neighborhood for packing with hundreds turning in large numbers to pay their last respect to the octogenarian.
He succumbed at a Kisumu hospital two weeks ago and was ferried home for burial on Friday. The Sunday's event brought together a host of politicians.
Mr Mogeni, a renowned farmer and former civil servant, started the first privately owned tea factory in the entire of Gusii region, which rivals those under KTDA.
For the last six years, the Mogeni Tea Factory has attracted hundreds of farmers and it's one of the biggest employers of several youths.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i made his way minutes past noon with several youths escorting his vehicle to the venue.
Dr Matiang'i was received by Governors James Ongwae and John Nyagarama. Senator Okong'o Mogeni, a member of the deceased' family, is their host.
The Sunday event is the first to be attended by Matiang'i, barely a month after President Uhuru Kenyatta added him more responsibilities in cabinet.
Dr Matiang'i is expected to face more pressure from politicians to contest for Presidency, with Governor John Nyagarama leading such calls.
A month ago, in a similar exercise at Dr Hezron Manduku's funeral, Raila Odinga asked Gusii politicians to stop piling pressure on Dr Matiang'i to join politics.
