On Monday, a furious Uhuru yet again expressed his disappointment over the ongoing 2022 succession debate being articulated by the DP and his allies, adding that he's only interested in improving the livelihoods of people.

Uhuru said: "The quest for political power must never supersede the needs of the common mwananchi. We must come to a place where we put the lives of #Kenyans first, where we unite to develop every county in this nation, for the good of every #Kenyan." https://twitter.com/UKenyatta/status/1082257239782637570?s=19

Conspicuously, Ruto was missing from Monday's Mombasa event even after local media reported that he was due to travel on Sunday to connect with his boss and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Mr Ruto, last week insisted that he's ready to compete for nominations within Jubilee Party even though Uhuru's ally, David Murathe, had ruled out his possiblity of succeeding the president.

"I am ready to support whoever who beats me in Jubilee primaries. I don't fear. It's about democracy but the competition must be fair. I don't depend on endorsement," he said.

In a jibe directed to Ruto's allies from Mt Kenya region, Uhuru on Monday accused them of promoting discrimination in terms of development, insisting that all regions deserve attention by the state.

Since Thursday, Ruto who is said to have called Uhuru over Murathe sentiments on Sunday, has not been seen in public, a rare occasion since in as many months.
