Ugandan police have arrested musician-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine.
The politician, who has been very vocal on matters of national interest, was arrested on his way to address a press conference. Wine was expected to talk about different issues including police brutality and poor leadership.
“Police and the military blocked us from reaching Busabala for our press conference about police brutality, injustice and abuse of authority. A citizen cannot be allowed to access his private property. People teargassed, beaten, many arrested. We shall overcome,” read the tweet.
Wine has been lamenting Museveni clinging on to power. He has been urging Ugandans to stand up against Museveni’s rule. He feels that the current regime has not done much to change the lives of the citizens since Museveni took over power.
The arrest comes barely a month after Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni was booed by Kenyatta University Students when he toured the campus to deliver a talk.
Police were compelled to lob tear gas canisters at rowdy students who were shouting pro-Bobi Wine chants outside a building where Museveni was giving a public lecture.
During his tour in Kenya, Museveni agreed to maintain close ties with his Kenyan counterpart Uhuru Kenyatta.
