Renowned scholar Makau Mutua now says President Uhuru Kenyatta should stop unnecessary lamentations and instead dissolve his cabinet as the primary step in the fight against graft.
For months now, Uhuru has warned corrupt workers in his government, often promising to have them fired and charged with economic crimes.
But Mutua, who has declared intentions to run for president, says Uhuru 'barks a lot but cannot bite', adding that those in government no longer fear him.
"I suggest Uhuru Kenyatta dissolves his whole cabinet and fires top civil servants and wholly reconstitutes his government if he’s serious about fighting corruption. He must act and stop futile lamentations," he said in a Tweet.
"The lords of corruption believe Uhuru Kenyatta is a toothless bulldog. He barks but doesn’t bite. They don’t fear him — they snicker and shrug when he threatens them."
At Murang'a on Thursday, Uhuru insisted that DCI George Kinoti and DPP Noordin Haji will soon make high profile arrests, saying nobody will be spared in the anticipated crackdown.
Mr Kenyatta also asked the judiciary to review bond terms for graft suspects, adding that Kenyans are tired of corruption and could soon take the law into their own hands.
This comes at the time DP William Ruto is denying viciously that the state could have lost Sh21 billion meant for construction of two dams in Elgeyo-Marakwet County despite preliminary investigations by DCI showing otherwise.
