Controversial Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria on Monday revealed that he would be vying for the country’s top seat in 2022 general elections.
Kuria’s declaration triggered a lot of reactions within different political groups in the country as the 2022 presidential race continues to gain momentum.
Speaking during an interview at Radio Jambo, the MP declared that, "I will support myself for the presidency. Campaign for me, my symbol will be a spanner. I just want to speak my mind.”
Politicians and Kenyans allied to Deputy President William Ruto feel that Moses Kuria is already showing the signs of 'betrayal'.
The two-time legislator is known for his strong support for DP Ruto who is looking forward to succeeding president Uhuru Kenyatta.
In fact, Kuria has been Ruto’s right-hand man in the Mt. Kenya region.
However, the DP is not worried and has not reacted to Kuria’s presidential bid because this is a well calculated political move.
It is clear that Ruto is no longer assured of the support of Mt Kenya region after supporting president Uhuru during in his first and second terms.
Kuria is the first politician from this region who has expressed his interest in country’s top seat and the locals from the GEMA will obviously support him.
Chances are high that Moses Kuria’s name will not appear in the ballot in 2022 and he will withdraw from the race shortly before the general elections and support DP Ruto to ensure he gets a maximum number of votes from the Central region.
