The election had one of the lowest turnouts in the club history, with only 1,000 members being approved  to vote by the Election Management Group (EMG).

Shikanda secured 457 votes defeating his closest rival lawyer Ben Musundi who got 165 votes.

Former AFC Leopards Chief Executive Officer Ronald Namai managed only 72 votes in the election conducted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The outgoing chairman Dan Mule did not defend his seat owing to poor performance witnessed during his tenure.

Speaking after his victory, Shikanda promised to transform AFC Leopards, and make it a trophy winning team.

"I am delighted to have been given the mandate to lead this club in the next 3 years, winning trophies will be the change that I promise to bring to the club," he said.

He also promised to approach more sponsors in a bid to boost the club's financial status, and urged the club's fans to always turn out in large numbers and support the team as they play.

During his footballing days, Shikanda played for both Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards.
