An agitated Deputy President William Ruto opted to work directly with MPs loyal to him from Mt Kenya region to confront former Jubilee vice chair David Murathe, it has been established.
A fiery Murathe, closely associated with President Uhuru Kenyatta, openly dismissed Ruto's chances of succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022 polls, remarks which temporarily put Jubilee party on fire.
One of Ruto's aide who spoke in confidence, said the DP opted to use his loyalists from Mt Kenya to directly question Murathe's conduct.
"It was tough and he had to respond intelligently. We had to look for friendly Mt Kenya legislators to respond to Murathe and demand for his resignation.
"The strategy worked perfectly. He had no option but to bolt out. We wanted to know who sent him and why. But fortunately, he has resigned and that's the way to go," he said.
Those who helped in conveying the message to Murathe include Kimani Ngunjiri, Kimani Ichungwah, Susan Kihika among many others from Mt Kenya.
Also, the Deputy President is said to have called the president on Sunday and demanded to know why Murathe was still a Jubilee official even after the outbursts.
But in an interview, the former Gatanga MP insisted that he voluntarily exited the scene since he could no longer sit with Ruto at NEC.
"I wasn't sacked and had I told the president, I am sure that he would have asked me to stay. Let me deal with them from outside," he told KTN News.
