Moiben lawmaker Silas Tiren has hit out at a section of politicians purporting that he is being supported by some forces to tarnish Deputy President William Ruto's name.
He says his quest to fight for maize farmers in the Rift Valley should not be seen as an affront to DP Ruto.
Speaking to the press in Eldoret town on Tuesday after meeting farmers, Tiren said he speaks for the farmers because he is one of them and because he understands their plight.
“I started defending farmers from 1997 to date where farmers issues have never been solved. There is nobody supporting me. I do it from my heart without depending on anybody,” said the Moiben MP.
Tiren reiterated that those saying he is being bribed to support farmers are enemies of progress.
He said that "corrupt" individuals are always on his back peddling falsehoods every time he speaks for the farmers.
“Those of you saying that I am being pushed or supported by anyone is corrupt and they don’t want their corruption to come out. Why do you fear the truth? I have come out clearly; if you know something that I don’t know, you come out and say how you are going to help farmers rather than branding me names,” added the Jubilee rebel MP.
He wondered why a section of leaders from the North Rift are asking farmers to abandon maize and embrace avocado farming noting that it's ill-intended since maize is the country’s staple food.
The MP further said that the country does not have enough food for farmer’s to stop growing maize.
