Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i on Tuesday morning led a delegation of security officials in Garissa county to oversee the opening of KCPE examination containers and overall security in the region.
At 5.20 am in the morning, Matiang'i witnessed the opening of examination at Sankuri Division, Garissa.
Addressing journalists after visiting Garissa and Sankuri Primary schools, CS Matiang'i stated that the exams kicked off with no cases of security lapse so far recorded.
The CS also added that his ministry would continue working with other relevant stakeholders including the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to ensure security situation in the region is at its maximum.
"I was at Sankuri by 5.30 Am to oversee the official opening of examination containers. I can assure you that all systems are working and we are not putting anything at a stake. We are in touch with all stakeholders including KDF to ensure everything goes as planned," Matiang'i told journalists.
However, the CS added that there were some challenges in delivering examinations to the various centers in Mandera over transport issues.
CS Matiang'i was flanked by several police bosses in the county including North Eastern regional coordinator Mohammed Birik.
