With President Uhuru Kenyatta still reluctant to pick his successor for the Mt Kenya kingship seat, a number of area leaders have already embarked on campaigns to take the post.

These include his close ally and Gatundu South successor Moses Kuria.

The vocal and controversial politician has even announced his presidential bid in 2022 as a way of bettering his chances ahead  of Uhuru's 2022 retirement.

The others thought to be in the race, according to the Nation, is former Meru Governor and Industrialization and Trade Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya.

Also thought to be in the race is sitting Murang'a County boss Mwangi Wa Iria.

Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki has also been pushing to be picked as Deputy President William Ruto's presidential running mate.

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru is also  another close ally to the President. She is also keen on being part of the Mt Kenya voices that matter. The Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri is also poised to be a possible successor in the region's leadership.

Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo and former Gatanga parliamentarian Peter Kenneth are also thought to be in the race to be the Central Kenya's political road map definers.

However, Uhuru has since warned politicians against foretelling his 2022 plans, adding that they will be shocked by his declaration.
