Nairobi Senator Jonhson Sakaja has moved to court to seek orders suspending the ban of matatus from the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
According to him, Nairobi County Government did not conduct public participation before enforcing the ban. He also blames the County administration for banning matatus from Central Business District without providing an alternative means of transport thus leaving the commuters stranded.
''The move by Governor Mike Sonko to ban matatus from the CBD is premature, and unfair to ordinary citizens. You cannot ban matatus before providing alternatives for commuters,'' said Sakaja.
It is also evident that the directives were enforced without involving leaders within the county like Senator, Members of Parliament, Members of County Assembly, Matatu owners representatives and other stakeholders.
Senator Sakaja holds that the ban should be rescinded and proper planning is done by involving all parties so as to come up with a decision that will not affect any party negatively.
