ODM Party leader Raila Odinga paid tribute to Mama Mary Oliech terming her one of her advisers.
Speaking in Mama Oliech’s home in Ratta, Seme Sub County in Kisumu on Saturday, the opposition chief said the late was hardworking and committed.
“She was an embodiment of reasons, highly spirited and industrious woman, brilliant and passionate in promoting raw talents. She was one of my advisers,” said Odinga.
Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang Nyong’o, Seme MP Dr James Nyikal, Kisumu County Women Representative Rosa Buyu, Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, and Kisumu County Assembly Speaker George Onyango Oloo are among a host of leaders who attended Mama Oliech’s burial.
She is the mother to former Harambee Stars Captain Dennis Oguta Oliech and former Stars defender Andrew Oyombe, among others.
The two were part of the Kenyan squad that participated in the last Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Tunisia in 2004. Oliech is Harambee Stars all time goal scorer with 34 goals.
Mama Mary Oliech died on the 20th of last month at her Nairobi’s Lang’ata home after a long battle with cancer.
Initially, a section of members of her family differed on the date of her burial. Others proposed August 11, 2018 while others stuck with August 18, 2018.
They agreed on the former before reverting to the latter.
