Construction workers union has called for investigations into Itare Dam scandal.
Addressing media in Nakuru, Kenya Building and Construction Workers Union Secretary Nakuru branch Rev. Maurice Shiundu said the government should explain why construction work has stopped.
He said up to 1000 workers who are members of the union are in darkness over the situation of the dam.
Shiundu added that the Italian company contracted to construct the dam has had conflicts with workers over salary.
“We have had problems with the contractor over payment of our members. Since last year August our members have not been paid and the site is deserted,” said Shisoka.
The secretary urged the government to bring back the contractor and subject them to investigations.
“We want the government to ensure the contractors are investigated over corruption on the three major dam projects. We will not accept subcontract that is being planned be given to a Chinese company,” said Shisoka.
