Two Cuban doctors have been sent to Wajir county as the government seeks to improve the county's health services.
The two specialist doctors who are among other Cuban doctors have been contracted to work in Kenya to offer a wide range of medical services.
The two doctors arrived at the Wajir County Referral Hospital on Monday.
According to Wajir county Chief Executive of Health Abdihakim Billow, the county was receiving its first specialist in the radiology unit.
“Initially we only had a radiographer and now we have a specialist who will interpret the results that will come out of the radiology unit and that will be of great benefit to us,” said Mr Billow as quoted by nation.co.ke.
Mr Billow, however, said the county government was making plans of providing interpreters who will work with the Cuban doctors as some of the patients seeking their services may not understand English.
“There are some residents who might not be in a position to understand English and we are laying out plans for translators who will work alongside these doctors for effective service delivery,” he added.
Two other Cuban doctors, a surgeon, and a family medicine specialist, have also arrived in Isiolo and will be based at Isiolo Level IV Hospital but will be moving to sub-county hospitals if needed.
Two other Cuban doctors have been sent to Lamu County and they will be working at the King Fahad County Hospital from Monday.
