It is one year since Rashid Bedzimba lost his Kisauni MP seat to a newcomer, Ali Mbogo whose term as area MP is well on course.

Not going down easily, he rushed to court to challenge the results which he deemed were manipulated in favour of his Wiper Party rival.  At first, the High Court dismissed his petition.

He moved to the Appellate Court only to withdraw the case midway. So what next for him?

Bedzimba’s resounding win in 2013 introduced him to Mombasa politics where he immediately gravitated to Governor Hassan Joho, the region’s political kingpin.

After developing political muscle under Joho, he became a heavyweight in his own rights. However, his loss has left him in an awkward political dilemma.

Even as he bids to make a comeback in 2022, the next four years will shape up his political trajectory.

Earlier, he was said to be eyeing the Mombasa County Assembly Speaker position. However, it was not to be.

With all options seemingly closed, President Uhuru Kenyatta may be the only man standing between him and disappearing into political oblivion.

The newly found love between the President and Joho may offer the former MP an escape route in his bid to survive Mombasa’s harsh politics. If not, the next four years will be his make or break moment.
