The Senator Moses Kajwang-led committee noted that the fine will not be paid by the county government of Kitui on her behalf.

The committee had asked Ngilu to appear before it with documentation to prove how she has been using the funds channelled to her government from the National Treasury but she failed to honour any of the summons leading to the fine.

Kajwang said that the governor has failed her people, adding that she is indebted to set the record straight for the sake of transparency and accountability.

“This committee shall fine you Ksh.500000 for having appeared but not brought the documents that were required of you in our various correspondences on March 12, 2019, and June 11, 2019, and in the newspaper adverts,” said Senator Kajwang.

Ngilu has been put on the spot over several issues including audit queries of Sh20 billion.

Ngilu has, however, maintained that she had utilized the said funds for the benefit of the taxpayers from her background. She is still expected to appear before the committee to give her side of the story.
