The body of a man, Melvin Olds Jr. was found on Thursday morning in Lake Placid. According to investigations being carried by the Highland County Sheriff's office, the 45 years old could have been killed by a pack of dogs.

Mr Melvin's mother,  Cynthia Hill mourned her son's mysterious death revealing that he used a footpath as a shortcut when the unimaginable happened. 

"Melvin Olds Jr. was a father of five, with grandchildren. His family says he used this pathway as a shortcut and never came home," she narrated. 

"I thought a dog was a man's best friend. He was a good person, a good man. Just so hurt, deeply because it's so unexpected," she added.

An autopsy done on Melvin's body which was found at a corner from his home at Lake Placid shows that his body had more than 100 dog bites. It was further revealed that no other injuries were found on his body. 

According to Mr Melvin's fiance, Jannell Ward, she had seen a pack of dogs hanging out around their home. 

 "They growled a couple of times but they never ran up to me. They never came at me or insinuated that they were going to bite me. I never got that feeling," she said. 

Highlands Co. Sheriff's Office Lt. Clay Kinslow confirmed that some stray dogs had been trapped and picked in the area. According to the report from the office, six pit-bull mixes had bite-size matches those found on Mr Olds injuries.

The dogs have not been linked to the death of Mr Olds until DNA test results are out. 

The police further revealed that they are working out to get in touch with the owners of the dogs. 

"We do work bite cases. As far as a pack of dogs that attacked somebody, we don't have many of those cases honestly," said Lt. Clay Kinslow.

Residents were notifies to be alert incase they see a pack of dogs acting aggressively. They were requested to call 911 immediately for actions to be taken.
