Two Al-Shabaab militants surrendered in Jubbaland on Saturday ahead of the much anticipated regional polls, reports have indicated.
According to local authorities, the two surrended amid intensified strikes and search by KDF soldiers and those from Somali National Army.
Local media reports that the two defected near Afmadow town, which is guarded by KDF and which has experienced frequent attacks targeting the Kenyan forces.
"Gedi Mohamed Ali and AbdiAziz Mohamed Mohumad defected Al-shabab and Surrendered to #Jubaland state, this morning at Afmadow District lower Juba Region, Jubaland Officials said," local media said.
In July, KDF thwarted an attack targeting the military base, killing one militant on spot besides injuring several others.
Sheikh Ahmed Madobe, the Ras Kamboni Brigade commander, is fighting to be re-elected and has been a champion of anti-Alshabaab.
On Friday, SNA and KDF also cleared some areas in Lower Shebelle, chasing the Al-Shabaab militants from the region after a long battle.
"Somali officials tour areas near Awdhegle captured from Al-Shabaab this week. Lower Shabelle Governor Ibrahim Adan Ali (Najah) and Commander of ground forces General Odawaa Yusuf Rageh met with military leaders and elders," VOA reported.
