Cabinet Secretary for Devolution and Asals Eugene Wamalwa on Thursday commissioned the construction of Kimumu-Bahati Wholesale market in Eldoret.
Speaking during the launch, Wamalwa said the market will benefit not only Uasin Gishu residents but all from the entire North Rift region.
Construction of the Sh110 million market is being funded by the European Union (EU).
“The market will be the first in the Noreb region with the construction of four cold rooms which will see the storage and distribution of fresh produces to various markets,” Wamalwa said.
The cold rooms will cushion farmers who produce perishable products so as to enable them to realize value addition.
"There will be improved earning thus the improvement of people's livelihoods. This shows that devolution is working," noted the CS.
On his part, Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno said with the Eldoret international airport in place, there's a need for locals to utilize the space when the aeroplanes deliver luggage from Europe and the Middle East.
He noted that there at least 5 flights a week to Eldoret.

The market upon its completion in June 2020 is projected to not an only house at least 2,000 traders but offer job employment to many.
