Secretary of Innovation, Diaspora and Digital Communication in the Office of the President Dennis Itumbi posted the letter detailing an alleged assassination plot of DP William Ruto, a court has heard.
Itumbi was charged for spreading falsehoods following the letter which caused political tensions in the country in June this year.
Noah Keino, a clerk at Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute(KIRDI) and administrator of the WhatsApp group made the claim when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku at a Milimani court.
Further, Keino said that he could not confirm if Itumbi authored the letter since he saw it in three other WhatsApp groups and on Facebook.
Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti dismissed the letter as fake following thorough forensic investigations by his team.
Itumbi has often denied generating the letter, accusing DPP and DCI of shoddy investigations. He was temporarily banned from posting on social media.
The letter dragged CSs Peter Munya, Joe Mucheru, James Macharia and Sicily Kariuki as conspirators of the murder plot.
Munya, a former Meru Governor, came out guns blazing, accusing the DP of being behind the fake letter. He denied links to the murder plot.
"I came home to defend myself because you might think I have become a murderer," he told a funeral.
"I am here to assure you that I have not changed. I cannot be found in a gathering of murderers. As a Njuri Ncheke elder, I know how to respect the sanctity of life."
