One would be tempted to think that the reason the two political kingpins united was because of the tyranny of numbers. But apparently, the reason for the formation of the alliance had nothing to do with politics.

Reports indicate that DP Ruto agreed to unite with President Uhuru for the sake of peace and not to win the presidential election.

As DP Ruto puts it, the presidential victory was just a bonus.

“We did not join forces with Uhuru Kenyatta to win elections. We joined forces to get rid of tribalism and hatred. Winning elections is just a bonus. No leader has not been chosen by God,” Ruto stated.

Dp Ruto has prioritized peace and unity among Kenyans to the extent that he is willing to lose an election for stability in the country.

“I do not want Kenyans to fight because of me. That is how serious I am. I don’t want people to lose lives because of any politicians. Whether we get the seat or not, what I want the most is peace in this nation. I would rather step aside and not vie for any political seat than to have Kenyans kill each other over elections again,” said Ruto.

The quest for peace and unity among Kenyans is also believed to be the reason for the handshake between President Uhuru and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
