A section of residents from Mitaboni ward, in Kathiani sub_county, Machakos have expressed their concern over increased roads accidents along Kangundo_Kenol _ Machakos and Koma _kenol_Machakos road
The locals in a social media page named Mitaboni Official Page (MOP) have criticized the Chinese contractors, linking the accidents to what they term as rituals conducted during the road construction.
"Mpaka mexhume motorbike na mchina mwenye naskia walizikwa hapo live live sitacomment. (Unless you exhume the motorbike and the Chinese you burried on the roads I won't comment) ," says Mwikari Mulwa.
"Mboya pekee... (prayers only) let's mobilize churches around we to do a joint prayer meeting," adds Steve Muthoka.
Led by the group admin and youth leader Mr Peter Kyalo alias PK, the group members who come from Mitaboni ward have said that every week a new accident reports.
"Our people should be careful when using the road. But people should remove the evil spirits they have planted on our roads," said Henry Muz King in a local dialect.
According to the post made by PK, several accidents have been reported on the road.
"The day before yesterday (on Tuesday) as a boy riding a bicycle was hit by a car near Masokani are and the corner to the Koma hill. Today at around 8:00AM (Wednesday) another person was involved in a tragic accident along kwa Ngondi shopping centre near ABC church and the lorry drive drove away," PK says.
He goes ahead to tell how a man took his brother to the morgue and on his way back got involved in an accident.
"We have been witnessing accidents like every week and our people are perishing," he adds.
It's however not clear what's has been Happening in the road but others say people need civic education on how to follow traffic rules when using the road and that bumbs should be erected.
"Bumps can help in this case," said Joshua Jay.
"Educating the residents. Don't Cross the roads anyhow. Check before you cross," Denis added.
The efforts to meet the county traffic police boss to speak over the issue did not bear fruits since we could not reach him through the phone.
