Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has offered to lead unity talks among Kamba leaders in an effort to bring the community together for development.
Speaking during the burial of the late Samuel Mbova, his former political advisor at Makindu in Makueni County on Saturday, Mutua said he is ready to champion for the Ukambani unity.
Mutua said the region will not make any political progress unless its electorates and leaders unite.
He said Ukambani has been used as a rubber stamp by other leaders in terms of national politics for a long time.
"We must start speaking in one voice if we want to make an impact on national politics and also guarantee development for our people," Mutua said.
Mutua said the region has a big chance of ascending to top leadership in 2022.
The governor said he is ready to work with all Kamba leaders to actualize the region's dreams.
Mutua, however, said his 2022 presidential bid is unstoppable.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader said he will transform the country if given a chance to lead in 2022.
Mutua did not comment on his planned 'handshake' with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Kalonzo who attended the burial also called for the Kamba unity.
He said the region will continue lagging behind in terms of development if leaders fail to unite and work together for the residents' interests.
Mutua and Kalonzo are among top politicians eyeing to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.
Pressure is, however, mounting on Governor Mutua to step down for Kalonzo.
