The County Government of Mombasa has embraced electronic vehicle parking (e-parking) in a bid to boost revenue collection. The project, which will be launched on February 18, will see all services in the various departments shifted from analogue to digital.
Speaking on behalf of Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, Finance Executive Mariam Mbaruk said that the new project has been designed to ensure there are no loopholes as far as revenue collection is concerned.
He also said that over the years, the county government has been losing millions in terms of revenue because of the leaks in the system. The residents of the county will now no longer be required to make any payment in form of cash when it comes to parking.
The project allows residents to make payments through their phones from anywhere. The service will be targeting more than 60,000 drivers who park their vehicles in the CBD on a daily basis.
The County government has plans to use 30 parking attendants to assist the drivers in using the services.
"We want the revenue streams to integrate so that systems can communicate with one another; e-parking is the first solution," she said, as quoted by Daily Nation.
The county government is also pursuing more options to ensure there is ultimate revenue collection from the transport sector.
