It is desperation and fear of the worst in future for Maureen Adhiambo Ajero, a student at Kenya Methodist University(KeMU).
In an exclusive interview with Hivisasa on Tuesday, Adhiambo explained how being an orphan has made her struggle in her pursuit of education.
Adhiambo who stays lives with her grandmother, says she has had tough times since she lost her parents.
The Applied Biology Student at KeMU is now appealing for financial aid to clear her school fees which has risen to Sh70,000. Her grandmother, she notes, does not have the means to help her settle the outstanding fee balance.
"My grandmother cannot fully afford to cover my fee. This has forced me to cut short my studies for two semesters. I am expected to pay Sh70, 000 for May-August session or else defer again. This has worried me a lot having no one to rely on," pleads a tearful Adhiambo who hails from Ugunja, Siaya County.
Adhiambo has tried collecting funds through a WhatsApp group (Help me clear my school fee) but it has been in vain. She said most people could not trust her reason was genuine.
Confirming her situation, KeMU Dean of Students gave a letter calling upon well-wishers to support her.
"The person in reference is a student of Kenya Methodist University, Main Campus Meru in the school of Science and Technology. Maureen is currently pursuing her undergraduate Degree in Applied Biology. We recommend her for any assistance without any reservation since she is an orphan and very needy," read the letter from signed off by Jeff Kubai Ikiamba, the Dean of Students.
She has appealed to well-wishers to channel their help through her Mpesa number 0797901004.
