Ochillo Ayacko of the Raila Odinga-led ODM garnered 85,234 votes to defeat his closest rival Eddy Oketch who got 60,555 votes.

Oketch, who vied on Federal Party of Kenya ticket, was rumoured to have the support of Deputy President William Ruto, a claim he has denied.

Suna East MP Junet Mohammed, who was leading Ayacko's campaigns, had alleged that Oketch had received millions from Ruto to 'embarass' Raila who enjoys near fanatical following in the region.

But Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has laughed off ODM's win, saying the 'small margin' by which Ayacko won with demonstrated that Raila was losing grip in Nyanza, a region he considers his stronghold.

In a long Facebook post, Nyoro said 'Ruto's candidate' (Oketch) made Tinga (Raila) sweat in his own backyard, noting that demonstrated Luo Nyanza was 'tired' of the ODM leader.

"RUTO WINS IN MIGORI: They (Junet and co) told us Migori Senatorial race was between Tinga and William Ruto. So far; Mbogo Ochillo Ayacko - 85k votes (57%) Gacheru Eddy Oketch - 60k votes (40%).

With William Ruto's candidate getting over 40%, it's clear Tinga is not just losing nationally but even his core of South Nyanza is warming up to the next government. Clearly you can cheat some of the People some of the time, cheat all the people some of the time, but you cannot cheat all the people all the time. Luo Nyanza is tired of sarakasi! Well done Eddy! Well done Hustler!" the first-time legislator posted.
