The appointment of retired Colonel Cyrus Oguna as new government spokesperson has raised mixed reactions from different factions.
Reacting to the appointment of the veteran soldier, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Communication Director, Philip Etale, wondered whether Oguna will imitate Governor Alfred Mutua who served in the position during President Mwai Kibaki's tenure.
During his reign as government spokesman, Governor Mutua held weekly media briefing on the state of affairs.
"Will Col. Cyrus Oguna revive Dr Alfred Mutua's weekly media briefings on the state of affairs? Let's wait and see," Etale tweeted.
The government through a statement by ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru, on Tuesday announced the appointment of Cyrus Oguna, replacing Eric Kiraithe as government spokesperson with immediate effect.
"Colonel (Rtd) Cyrus Odhiambo Oguna appointed Government Spokesman with immediate effect. Colonel (Rtd) Oguna will be based at Ministry of ICT and will have oversight over all Government Communications channel," the Ministry of ICT tweeted.
The Ministry did not indicate why Kirtaithe was replaced, and what will happen to him after the appointment.
