For a moment in Gusii stadium, businesses in Kisii town were disrupted momentarily as locals rushed to welcome Don Bosco Gichana.
Accompanied by former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi among others, Bosco landed in at around 3pm in three helicopters as thousands cheered them in.
Earlier, the team had camped in Marani region where Bosco placed a wreath on his mother's grave, since he missed the burial in 2016.
Mr. Gichana dismissed local leaders who had politicised the occasion, adding that it had nothing to do with geopolitics.
"I don't know why people are scared when someone is meeting people for homecoming. They are panicking for nothing.
"As Gusii community, we shall remain United no matter the circumstances. I forgive my destructors and life must go on," he said.
The businessman cum politician was released from a Tanzania prison after pleading guilty to money laundering and fraud, a crime he still maintains that he never committed.
Mr. Musyoka urged local politicians to drop hatred and embrace unity, adding that he was one of the most worried people when Bosco was locked for five years.
Thousands of youths from Nyamira and Kisii Counties asked Bosco to soon declare his interest in Gusii politics.
