Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi has urged the political class to be cautious in the implementation of the Building Bridges Initiative report, if it is to achieve its objectives.
In a hard-hitting new year message to Kenyans, the former vice president claimed that a section of politicians have turned BBI into an arena of sharing political positions, at the expense of citizens.
"Kenya has fallen into a treacherous trap of squabbling over political power and personality cults. There is very little focus on the issues that could improve the quality of living in the country," Mudavadi said in a statement.
While urging the politicians to consider the plight of Kenyans in the implementation of the BBI report, Mudavadi said that the report has now taken a different political direction instead of using it to assess the issues that affect Kenyans.
He claimed the restructuring of the executive arm of government as recommend by the BBI report, has regenerated into a dangerous debate with individuals to occupy those positions already in mind.
"We should not restructure the Executive to satisfy the appetite of certain individuals for positions. If we must restructure the executive, let it be for the greater good of citizens welfare," he added.
