Kesses Member of Parliament Dr Swarup Mishra has said he will sponsor 100 students from his constituency to pursue medical courses at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC).
Addressing the media at his office on Saturday, the MP said sponsoring the students to undertake medical courses will make it easier for the government to achieve Universal Health Coverage through increasing the workforce.
“My administration is going to sponsor 100 students to pursues medical courses at KMTC at a cost of Sh6.7 million. We will cater to all their needs such as fees, transport, and the accommodation needed until they complete their course,” Mishra said,
“The students will pursue courses in nursing, pharmacy, lab technology, radiography, nutrition, bio-engineering, physiotherapy among others,” he added.
Mishra said the initiative aims to ensure youths are empowered to improve their livelihoods thus reducing cases of unemployment which leads to increased insecurity.
According to Mishra, Universal Health Coverage will only be achieved if there is enough human resource on every corner of the country.
He further noted that his administration will sponsor 2,000 talented youths in volleyball and football, and provide them with jerseys and necessary equipment.
The Kesses legislator recently sponsored 700 youths to pursue technical courses at Eldoret National Polytechnic.
