Central Organization of Trade Union (COTU) has hit out at the National government over what it terms is a move to have cartels take over the National Industrial Training Authority.
First Assistant Secretary General of COTU Mr. Ernest Nadome says the union umbrella body will not allow illegalities through moves being taken by the government.
He said despite the term of the Director-General NITA coming to an end, the Board decided to his stay in office.
However, he is quick to note that the Ministry of Labour has declined and decided to appoint someone in an acting capacity.
COTU now terms the move by the government as unfair and an indicator that there are vested interests, fearing the ministry could plan their own man on the job.
The union is now calling on the government to respect the rule of law.
“We will not allow any further illegalities being done by the government concerning NITA. We see vested interests, the government plans to plant their own,” said Nadome.
He was speaking in Nakuru on Monday during the official opening of a 5-day training workshop for University stakeholders on negotiation skills for strengthened social dialogue in the education sector in Kenya.
Nadome who also represented COTU SG Francis Atwoli, expressed concerns over the Salaries and Remuneration Commission powers that have frustrated the implementation of the CBA's in the country affecting the terms of the workers.
