As the 60th National Drama and Film Festivals came to an end on April 12, Deputy President Willaim Ruto treated the audience to an emotional moment.
Ruto presided over the State Concert on behalf of President Uhuru Kenyatta who is out of the country on official duty.
When Riara Girls High School from Nairobi presented their play, titled 'Botched', it moved the audience.
The play was about a young girl being forced by the mother to be a fourth wife to an old man hence curtailing her education.
The main characters were Shukri (main character), Ustadh Manila (the old man), and Abdalla Malik who the DP recognised.
Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati said, he witnessed the DP shed tears as the performance went on.
"Your Excellency, I think I was sitting next to you and when the Riara team was on the stage. Your Excellency, I saw you removing your handkerchief and trying to wipe some tears because it was very very emotional," the Governor said.
The DP said, he shed tears since the play was very overwhelming and touching.
"As said, I was overwhelmed by the talent," Ruto said
"You all agree that Shukri Abdalla did a wonderful job together with Ustadh Manila known as 'himselfu'; Abdalla Malik," he added.
The National Drama and Film Festival was held at Kibabii University since April 3, 2019. It was sponsored by the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB).
